About a decade ago, Pervasive Group launched an app for children’s phones, giving parents control over their kids’ online activities. Now, they’ve taken it a step further by embedding the technology directly into the phone itself, making it more secure.

“We decided to launch the solution, which is a phone with our app built into it,” said Coley Pritchett, the Director of Marketing at Pervasive Group, Inc., the creator of MMGuardian technology.

“It’s designed for children of any age,” Pritchett explained. “Parents can do pretty much anything they want – whether it’s filtering the web, locking their kids’ phones on demand or overnight, or monitoring messages like text messages and popular social media apps such as Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and others.”

The company has also developed in-house artificial intelligence technology.

“It comes with AI-powered safety alerts. So, our AI scans messages and if it detects anything concerning like cyberbullying, drugs, threats, sexual predators, or inappropriate pictures, parents receive an immediate alert on their phones. They can view the alert and the message right away,” explained Pritchett.

According to the Pew Research Center, about 75% of parents with children aged 5 to 11 check the websites and mobile apps their child uses. Approximately 72% of this group employs parental controls to limit screen time.

Over time, the company created algorithms and trained the AI to recognize these issues, including slang and emojis. Parental feedback on whether alerts should be generated for certain messages played a crucial role in training the AI.

Phones equipped with MMGuardian technology can be purchased from the company’s website. Pritchett added, “It is subscription-based, costing $9.99 monthly for parental controls. Those opting for annual subscriptions can enjoy a discount when buying the phone.”

But as the company claims that this is designed for all ages, It also raises concern of privacy for teens as they might not want to share everything with parents sometimes, somethings remain personal makes more sense.
