Intercaste and inter-religion marriages are common these days. Of course, these things have still to go a long way to come to a point where we can say it’s very normal. But today in this article we are talking about Blood-tie marriages which means marrying someone related to your family gene can be problematic and usually avoided.
There are several terms used to describe blood-relation marriages such as Blood-tie marriages, Family marriages, Cousin Marriages, etc.
However, for generations, people around the world believed in marrying their sons and daughters within their community and it’s even followed now. Just to make sure Community doesn’t mean Blood relation although relatives could come under blood relation. Now this was done because the same community will have similar traditions and faith which leads to a good syncing for both families and better cultural understanding.
Problems with Blood-Related Marriages
It’s been said that you don’t have to be sick to pass a genetic disease to your child. And with blood related marriages, unknowninly passing the risk of such diseases is very high.

Our DNA which lies inside chromosomes has two gene forms.
Each gene is inherited from maternal and paternal sides. Now in most cases there will be a Dominating gene (Strong) and Recessive gene (Weak). So whenever there is a case like this, Dominant gene will overlap the Recessive gene and child will be protected from abnormality
But with partners from same blood relation, the probability of both the genes have some similarity rises 12.5%. So if there is any recessive traits or abnormality in one gene, there is a 12.5% chance that it will also be present in the other gene and will carried to Child as well.
Most of the childbirth defects that we see all around the world are caused by genetic problems. One of the main causes these defects is a blood relations marriages.
Important thing to consider here is the most risk lies with First Cousin marriage, and the risk keeps decreasing as well move further and further like Second Cousin, Third Cousin, etc.

All the brothers and sisters from your direct uncle and aunt (Father’s Brother & Sister and Mother’s Brother and Sister) are first cousins.

Does Genetic Problems occur with Every Blood-related partner?
No its not necessary that genetic problem will occur with every blood related partners. There are several blood related couples all around the world are happy and have healthy babies.
But the chances of risk is very high with such blood related couples than other couples. Hence we see Blood relation marriages are avoided across the world.
Is Gotra same as Blood Relation?
Yes, Gotra is considered same as Blood relation in Hindu religion and hence whenever Gotra matches of a guy and girl matches, they don’t marry.
